We are pleased to welcome you at Nancy, University of Lorraine, France, for the XXIst edition of the International Symposium on Intercalation Compounds (ISIC). Nancy, capital of the Dukes of Lorraine is located in Lorraine, 1h30 by train at the east of Paris. Let’s have a walk in the Old Town, discover the famous Place Stanislas, or be surprised by the work of art inspired by the « Ecole de Nancy » style.
The ISIC started in 1977 in La Napoule, France and should normally take place alternatively every two years in Europe, Asia or America. Our last presential meetings were held in Strasbourg, France (2015), Assisi, Italy (2017) and Campinas, Brazil (2019). Unfortunately, due to recent Covid issues, the organization has been disturbed and delayed, so that we did not meet each other since 2019. That is why we are very proud to welcome you in Nancy, France, and we will do our best in order to propose you the best possible organization.
Intercalation chemistry gathers a very large community of scientists and associated fields of research working on organic, inorganic and hybrid compounds, either natural or synthetic. Such intercalation chemistry cannot be dissociated from the study of the synthesis, structure, chemical and physical properties of the so-obtained intercalation materials.
Currently, novel ways of synthesis are under development for the preparation of original phases. With the recent scientific development, huge progresses are also realized concerning the characterization of these materials. These intercalation compounds clearly exhibit advantages and perspectives that can be involved in numerous applicationscatalysis, energy, environment, health, engineenering... All these topics will constitute the heart of our Symposium and will be the subject of a future Essay written by the ISIC Advisory Board included in a Special Issue.
On behalf of the organizing committee, we wish you a nice stay in Nancy, an enriching symposium and fruitful discussions.
